This company was reaistered March 6th, 1906, as the Burma Mines, Railway and Smelting Co., Ltd., to acquire the undertaking of the Great Eastern Mining Co., Ltd. see vol. far 1908 , owning a group of ancient silver lead mines including smelting and other plant and partly constructed railway at Baudwen, in the Northern Shan States, Upper Burma, 60 miles from the frontier of the Province of Ynnnan, China, and about 45 miles from Hsipaw station, on the Lashio Branch of the Burma railways. The property is held under licence from the Indian Government, and covers an area of 2,496 acres. The consideration was £309,903 £259,993 for property, and £50,000 for smelter railway, Ac , payable £50,000 in debenture stock and £259,993 in fully-paid ordinary shares. The properties were reported on by Bewick, Moreing & Co., Salman and Picard, and F. D. Chase. The name was changed in April, 1908. The railway, having a length of about 50 miles, conveys the ore from the mines at Baudwen to Manpwe Junction on the Burma Railways, and from thence is transported to the company s smelter at Mandnlay. The authorised capital is £450,000, in 450,000 ordinary shares of 2s. each and 405,000 deferred shares Bf £1 each ; 260,000 ordinary and 260,000 deferred 650 THE Uimm UANVAL. The capital was increased from £410,000 present amount in November, 1907, and was altered to present form in April, 1908, 45,000 ordinary £1 shares being converted into 450,000 shares of 2s. the remaining shares being called deferred shares ; 260,000 ordinary were offered to deferred shareholders for subscription, the remaining 190,000 being reserved for debenture-holders rights. The ordinary shares are entitled to 95 per cent, profits and assets. There is £150,000 six per cent, first mortgage convertible debenture stock multiples of £1, which was offered for public subscription in March, 1906; final call was 2s. Gd., payable September 1st, 1907; stock redeemable December 31st, 1915, or esrlier at company s option at a premium of 5 per cent., holders having the right after November 30th, 1906, to convert their holding fully-paid ordinary shares j until the whole of the stock has been redeemed converted, the entire net profits are to be applied in redemption of stock purchase or drawings ; interest payable January 1st and July 1st. There £30,560 part of £40,000 second mortgage debenture stock which waa offered share and first debenture- holders at par in November, 1907, and is redeemable 150 per cent, interest and bonus out of the net profits after first satisfying requirements of the first debentures ; subscribers have the right at any prior to redemption to convert their holding into fully-paid ordinary shares. This company was registered February 26th, 1889, to acquire a licence or cession for certain ruby mines in Burma granted by the Secretary of State Council of India, for the Burma Ruby Mines, for seven years with certain visions for renewal, at a rent of four lacs of rupees per annum, the Government also receiving one-sixth of net profits. The consideration was £55,000 cash. lease has been renewed for 28 years from May 1st, 1904, at a minimum annual rental of Rs.2,00,000, and 30 per cent, of collections from licence-holders in excess Hs.2,00,000 in any year, the Government share of the net profits being 30 per The lease confers rights over unoccupied portions of an area of about square miles known as the Mogok Stone Tract, in Upper Burma ; the company s operations are chiefly confined to the Mogok Valley, where a drainage tunnel been constructed to cope with the excessive flow of water. During 1906-1,890,944 loads were washed at a cost of 7-7d. per load ; during 1907-8, 2,033,666 loads at a cost of 7 6d. per load. The authorised capital is £180,000, in 299,000 ordinary and 1,000 founders Bhares of 12s. each ; all the Bhares are issued and fully paid. The final call of was made payable October 2nd, 1905.
